FAIR BLUFF — A 74‑year‑old Fair Bluff woman told deputies Friday that someone had used her personal information without permission, according to a sheriff’s office report.

The victim, Cherol Ann Grainger, reported the identity theft around 1:53 p.m. at her home on Irvin Enzor Road. The report lists the stolen property as “identity — intangible,” a classification used when personal data is compromised.

Identity‑theft cases involving seniors have increased statewide, with the N.C. Department of Justice warning residents about phone scams, fraudulent Medicare calls, and phishing attempts.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.
