Brush Fire Contained Near Highway 501 Business — July 1, 2026
At 3:00 p.m. on July 1, Horry County Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of Highway 501 Business and Old Woodward Avenue in Conway for a reported brush fire near the railroad tracks, estimated at less than an acre. The fire was quickly brought under control, with no structures threatened.
The City of Conway Fire Department and Horry County Sheriff’s Office assisted on scene. As of 7:50 p.m., the roadway fully reopened to traffic. The Highway 501 Business corridor experienced no further impact.
Two‑Vehicle Crash Blocks Lanes on Highway 554 — July 1, 2026
Later that evening, HCFR responded to a two‑vehicle crash at Highway 554 and Highway 777 in Loris. Lanes of traffic were temporarily blocked during the response.
No one was transported to the hospital. HCFR was dispatched at 6:06 p.m., and the South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating. Drivers in the Highway 554 area experienced delays until the scene was cleared.
Grass Fire Threatens Structures on Shore Drive — July 2, 2026
On July 2 at 12:05 p.m., HCFR crews were dispatched to Shore Drive in the Longs community for a reported grass fire estimated at approximately one acre, with flames threatening nearby structures.
The fire was fully contained. A vinyl fence sustained damage, but firefighters successfully protected all structures. The cause was determined to be a lawnmower igniting dry grass. Residents may continue to see firefighter presence for an extended duration. The South Carolina Forestry Commission assisted on scene. The Shore Drive community did not experience additional impact.
