Walter Hill recognized for fostering student success through hands-on museum partnerships and community engagement.
Horry County, SC — The Horry County Museum Director Walter Hill has been honored as one of Coastal Carolina University’s 2026 Changemakers, a recognition celebrating his dedication to fostering educational opportunities for college students. The award was presented on Monday, June 1, during the university’s “A Taste for Learning” fundraiser, an event hosted by the Department of Anthropology and Geography within the Spadoni College of Education and Social Sciences.
In accepting the honor, Hill emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between academic study and professional practice. He noted that the museum serves as a critical conduit for student success, allowing pupils to engage in real-world applications of museum work while simultaneously providing them with a platform to contribute meaningfully to their community.
The Department of Anthropology and Geography selected Hill for this distinction in recognition of his enduring partnership with their programs. His leadership has opened numerous avenues for students to gain hands-on experience, ranging from collections management and curation to interpretation, museum education, and the development of public programming.
