WHITEVILLE — A homeless man was injured and robbed during an altercation between two panhandlers early the morning of March 4, according to information obtained from local law‑enforcement sources.
Whiteville police were called after a fight broke out between two men who had been panhandling in the same area. During the confrontation, both individuals reportedly pulled knives. One of the men suffered a cut to his toe before the other stole $3.58 from him and fled the scene.
Officers located the injured man nearby. His wound was described as minor, and no additional injuries were reported. Police have not released the identity of the suspect, and no arrest information has been made public.
The investigation remains open as officers work to identify and locate the second panhandler involved in the incident.
