FARMERS UNION — A Clarkton man is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say he led narcotics detectives on a high‑speed chase through the Farmers Union community last week, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour before being stopped on Hallsboro Road North.

According to the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Special Operations Division were conducting proactive patrols in the Tom Sessions Road and Mable Spaulding Road area on March 31 in response to repeated citizen complaints about suspected drug activity. Detectives attempted to stop a vehicle they said was being driven suspiciously, but the driver refused to pull over.

Deputies identified the driver as 49‑year‑old Daniel Delech Adams of Clarkton.

Chase exceeded 100 mph

Investigators said Adams accelerated away from the traffic stop, weaving across both lanes of the roadway and creating what deputies described as a serious hazard for other drivers. Units coordinated to contain the pursuit, which continued for several miles before ending near Rehobeth Church Road.

Once stopped, deputies reported that Adams refused commands and resisted arrest, resulting in a brief struggle. One detective received minor injuries while taking him into custody.

Cocaine and drug‑use items recovered

A search of the vehicle uncovered cocaine and items deputies say are commonly used to ingest narcotics. Adams was taken for medical evaluation before being booked into the Columbus County Detention Center.

Charges and bond

Adams is charged with:

  • Felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle
  • Felony possession of cocaine
  • Felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for controlled substances
  • Resist, delay, obstruct a public officer (two counts)

He received a $50,000 secured bond.

Sheriff Bill Rogers said the incident underscores the risks deputies face during enforcement efforts and the dangers posed when drivers attempt to escape at high speeds. The case remains part of the agency’s ongoing narcotics‑enforcement operations.
