Horry County, SC — Horry County Fire Rescue responded to three separate incidents between July 17 and July 18, addressing emergencies offshore, in a residential neighborhood, and along a major roadway in the Longs community.
On July 17, Fire Boat 2 from HCFR Station 2 in Little River assisted the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast with a vessel in distress approximately 25 miles offshore in the Atlantic Ocean. Crews located the vessel and its two occupants, confirmed no injuries, provided support, and cleared the vessel to continue north without further issues.
The next morning, on July 18 at 8:33 a.m., HCFR was dispatched to a reported gas odor near Plumbfield Court and Juxa Drive in the Carolina Forest area. Responders found a leaking underground propane tank outside a residence and secured the immediate area as a precaution. A utility technician arrived to repair the leak, and by 11:30 a.m. the incident was declared under control. No injuries were reported, and officials said there was no threat to the surrounding public.
Later that evening, at approximately 8:00 p.m., HCFR responded to Highway 905 and Red Bluff Road in the Longs community for an electrical hazard after a utility pole caught fire. Lanes of traffic were blocked while crews worked with utility personnel to replace damaged equipment. The incident was brought under control, and drivers were asked to avoid the area to prevent delays and ensure safety for those working on scene.
