Hallsboro Road Accident (Nakina Fire and Rescue)

First responders cleared the scene quickly after confirming all occupants exited the vehicle safely.

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — A holiday afternoon took a serious turn Saturday when emergency crews rushed to the scene of a rollover motor vehicle accident on Hallsboro Road South.

At 4:13 p.m. on July 4, first responders were dispatched to the 9000 block of Hallsboro Road South, near the intersection of Ward Town Road, following reports of a vehicle overturned with four people potentially trapped inside.

The emergency response was significant, drawing resources from across the region. Nakina Fire & Rescue led the operation, supported by the Tabor City Paramedic Quick Response Vehicle (QRV), the Old Dock Cypress Creek Fire Department, and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. Due to the initial reports suggesting multiple entrapped victims, dispatchers requested an additional ambulance from Whiteville Rescue, stationed at Lake Waccamaw, to ensure adequate medical coverage.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters and paramedics were relieved to find that all occupants had managed to exit the vehicle on their own. The medical team from Whiteville Rescue was canceled while enroute, and personnel from Nakina Fire & Rescue shifted their focus to assessing and treating the occupants.

Once the scene was secured and patients were evaluated, all fire and EMS units cleared the area and returned to service.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation into the cause of the collision. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved, pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation. We will update this story as official reports become public record.
