RIEGELWOOD, NC — A weekend investigation into alleged child abuse in eastern Columbus County resulted in charges against a 35-year-old Riegelwood man with a history of federal violent crime convictions.
Deputies responded to an incident on Edgecomb Drive in Riegelwood on the night of July 26 involving three minor victims aged 10, 14, and 15. Following the investigation, Borenzo Cortez Patrick, 35, also of Edgecomb Drive, was taken into custody and booked into the Columbus County Detention Center shortly after midnight on July 27 on misdemeanor child abuse charges.
Federal court records show Patrick was previously convicted in 2017 for the armed bank robbery of the Riegelwood Federal Credit Union, where he used an unloaded assault rifle during a takeover robbery and served a 121-month sentence in federal prison. Following his recent arrest on child abuse charges, Patrick was placed under a $10,000 secured bond and was released later that day after posting bail.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
