A Flood Watch is in effect from 8:00 p.m. Thursday through Friday afternoon for much of southeastern North Carolina, following an alert issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington at 3:14 p.m. Thursday.
The watch includes Bladen, Coastal Brunswick, Coastal New Hanover, Coastal Pender, Columbus, Inland Brunswick, Inland New Hanover, Inland Pender, and Robeson counties.
A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding, and residents should remain alert as weather conditions evolve.
Forecasters report that flash flooding remains possible as a slow‑moving cold front approaches and stalls over the region from Thursday into Friday. Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected, with 2 to 4 inches of rain likely and locally higher amounts possible where storms repeatedly track over the same areas.
Excessive runoff may lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and low‑lying or flood‑prone locations, especially areas that have experienced recent high‑water events or poor drainage.
Residents are encouraged to monitor conditions closely and review flood‑safety guidance at weather.gov/safety/flood.
