LAKE WACCAMAW, NC — Residents are invited to gather for a community pot luck dinner on Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum, 201 Flemington Drive, Lake Waccamaw, where guests will share homemade dishes and enjoy an evening centered on fellowship and local connection.
Organizers say the dinner reflects the museum’s ongoing role as a community gathering place, offering residents a relaxed setting to come together, share food, and strengthen neighborhood ties. Guests are encouraged to bring a dish to pass and enjoy an evening of good food and great company.
About the Depot Museum
The Lake Waccamaw Depot Museum dates back to around 1900, when the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad built the depot to support passenger and freight service tied to the region’s timber, turpentine, and early tourism industries. After rail use declined, the building was preserved through a local effort in the 1970s. The town purchased the depot in 1973, moved it to its current site in 1974, and volunteers restored it into a museum. Today, it features artifacts ranging from prehistoric finds to Civil War and railroad history, along with a restored ACL caboose. The museum also serves as a community hub, hosting music sessions, club meetings, and social events throughout the year.
