Iceberg lettuce pulled from U.S. market due to possible Cyclospora contamination
FDA RECALL: Taylor Fresh Foods has issued a voluntary recall of all iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico because the product may be contaminated with Cyclospora, according to an announcement published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall, announced July 17 and posted by FDA on July 18, is connected to a multistate Cyclospora outbreak. Taylor Farms de Mexico stated it has stopped receiving product from the implicated lot, suspended distribution of iceberg lettuce from the affected region, notified customers, and is working with FDA, CDC, and state authorities.
Cyclospora infection commonly causes diarrhea with frequent bowel movements. Other symptoms may include loss of appetite, weight loss, stomach cramps, bloating, increased gas, nausea, fatigue, vomiting, body aches, headache, and fever. Some individuals may show no symptoms. Untreated illness can lead to dehydration and complications lasting weeks or longer, and symptoms may relapse. Immunocompromised individuals may experience more severe or prolonged illness requiring close medical attention.
The recalled shredded iceberg lettuce was distributed June 29 through July 16 in the following states: AL, AR, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WI.
Consumers who purchased the recalled iceberg lettuce should discard it immediately and not consume it. Refunds are available at the point of purchase. Anyone experiencing symptoms consistent with Cyclospora infection should contact a healthcare provider.
Questions may be directed to Taylor Farms’ customer care team at 855.455.0098, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
