Blue plastic contamination triggers Class II recall across 40 states, including North Carolina
Recall: Ventura Foods’ recall of single‑serve peanut butter packets and PB&J cups remains active through March 2026 after the FDA classified the issue as a Class II recall tied to blue plastic fragments found in a production filter. The recall began in April 2025, but the FDA’s February 12, 2026, update is the most recent regulatory action, and no termination notice has been issued.
The affected products include small creamy peanut butter packets in 0.5‑ounce, 0.75‑ounce, and 1.12‑ounce sizes, along with 2.12‑ounce peanut butter and jelly cups in grape and strawberry varieties. These items were distributed under multiple private‑label brands commonly used in schools, hotels, hospitals, cafeterias, and food‑service kits, including Flavor Fresh, House Recipe, Katy’s Kitchen, Poco Pac, Sysco House Recipe, US Foods, and Gordon Food Service. Because these packets are often served without retail packaging, many consumers may not immediately recognize whether they have the recalled items.
Distribution records show the products were shipped to 40 states, including North Carolina, with more than 23,000 cases included in the recall.
The FDA notes that while serious health effects are unlikely, the contaminated products may still pose temporary or medically reversible risks if consumed. The agency advises consumers to take the recall seriously, especially if they have unlabeled packets at home.

Anyone who finds these peanut butter packets or PB&J cups in their pantry should not eat them. Unlabeled single‑serve packets, especially those from take‑out bags, school meals, hotel breakfasts, or workplace cafeterias should be thrown away if the source cannot be confirmed. Food‑service operators are urged to check inventory immediately and follow disposal instructions from their distributors to prevent accidental use.
Consumers with questions can contact Ventura Foods at 800.593.6151 or info@venturafoods.com. The company can assist with identifying affected products and provide guidance on proper disposal.
