A southbound tanker truck struck a turning vehicle; victim’s name not yet released

Brunswick County, NC — A 60 year old female died after a collision involving a semi‑truck on US Highway 17 Southbound near Maco Road in Brunswick County. The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, according to state highway officials.
Troopers say the woman was attempting a left turn from US 17 onto Maco Road when she failed to yield and was struck by a southbound tanker truck. She died at the scene. The truck driver sustained minor injuries.
As of Tuesday morning, authorities have not yet released names.
Southbound lanes of US 17 were closed for several hours while emergency crews responded and investigators documented the scene. Traffic was diverted until the highway reopened.
