Town board brings back longtime administrator to restore stability

By BC News Staff Writer

Elizabethtown leaders have voted to rehire their former town manager Eddie Madden. Bringing Madden back to the post he held for more than a decade. The decision follows Madden’s announcement that he planned to retire from his Columbus County Manager role at the end of 2026.

Town officials said they reached out to Madden to help stabilize operations and rebuild strained relationships after recent leadership turnover. Eddie Madden confirmed that his Columbus County contract allows him to depart early with 60 days’ notice. He previously served 13 years as Elizabethtown’s manager before leaving in 2021.

Madden will replace former manager Dane Rideout, who resigned in 2025. Assistant Town Manager Pat DeVane had been serving in the interim.
