Prosecutors say the 22‑year‑old led a group that tied up and assaulted a teen during a burglary

Conway, SC — A Conway man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to a 2025-armed home invasion, according to the Fifteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Alegandro Luis Diaz, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first‑degree burglary, one month before his scheduled trial, said Assistant Solicitor Natale F. Corsi, who prosecuted the case. Circuit Court Judge Alex Hyman handed down the 15‑year sentence. First‑degree burglary is classified as a two‑strike, most serious offense in South Carolina, meaning Diaz could face life without parole if convicted of another qualifying crime.
Prosecutors said Diaz led three co‑defendants during a home invasion on the night of Valentine’s Day 2025. Armed with a pistol, Diaz entered the victim’s home while the homeowner was at work, tied up and assaulted the victim’s teenage son, and threatened him while the group ransacked the residence. Jewelry, clothing, firearms, and items of sentimental value were among the thousands of dollars in property stolen.
“No citizen of Horry County should ever feel unsafe in their own home, and we will continue to be strategic in our prosecution of these cases,” Corsi said. “Fifteen years today, life tomorrow, we will take advantage of South Carolina’s three‑strikes sentencing law until this behavior is deterred.”
Corsi credited Conway Lieutenant Heath Watford, Detective Tyler Swanson, and the Conway Police Department for their work on the case.
Diaz’s co‑defendants are Hancel Alverado, Jamiah Franklin, and Megan De La Cruz. Cases for Franklin and Alverado – who was deported after being released on bond – remain pending. De La Cruz previously pleaded guilty to second‑degree burglary violent and received a 15‑year sentence, suspended to five years of probation.
