Early detection saves lives, but screening rates remain too low
Whiteville, NC — Columbus Regional Healthcare is calling on all adults age 45 and older to make colon cancer screening a priority during Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer remains the second leading cause of cancer‑related deaths, yet it is one of the most treatable and curable cancers when detected early.
Despite the proven benefits, fewer than one in four adults ages 45–50 is up‑to‑date on screening. Health officials say that number is far too low for a disease that can often be prevented or caught early through routine testing.
