Columbus County’s Board of Commissioners has approved a budget amendment exceeding $420,000 to support the continued operation of two quick response vehicles (QRVs) used by county emergency services.
The decision came during Tuesday’s regular meeting, where more than a dozen EMS personnel were present to advocate for the funding. QRVs are designed to reach emergency scenes ahead of traditional ambulance crews, often playing a critical role in time-sensitive situations.
Just last week, one of the QRV teams assisted in the delivery of a baby before EMS units arrived — a powerful example of the vehicles’ value in the field.
The newly approved funding will sustain QRV operations through the end of the current fiscal year, which concludes in June.
