WHITEVILLE, NC — As the new school year approaches, the Columbus Baptist Association (CBA) is calling on community members to help launch this year’s Backpack Buddy Ministry, a local effort dedicated to providing weekend food bags for children in need across Columbus County.
To prepare for the upcoming school year, the organization is hosting two volunteer events in August at the CBA office, located at 208 S. Thompson Street in Whiteville:
-
Set-Up Day: On Monday, August 10, at 9:00 a.m., volunteers are needed to unbox shipments, unwrap items, and organize supplies to prepare for the main packing event. Those interested in helping with set-up are asked to contact Dave Heller in advance.
-
Packing Party: The official kickoff Packing Party will take place on Tuesday, August 18, at 6:30 p.m. Community members of all ages are invited to bring a friend and help pack individual-sized food items into bags for local students.
The Backpack Buddy Ministry works to ensure that students who rely on school meals during the week do not go hungry over the weekend, operating under the motto: “Because hunger doesn’t end on Friday.”
For more information or to let organizers know you plan to volunteer, contact the Columbus Baptist Association at (910) 642-2155.
