CLARKTON MAN CHARGED IN CRASH THAT KILLED COLUMBUS COUNTY DEPUTY

A Columbus County Sheriff’s deputy was killed Thursday morning in a two‑vehicle crash, and a Clarkton man is now facing charges in the fatal collision.

Deputy Damien Bost died after a wreck that occurred early Thursday in Columbus County. Details of the crash, including the exact location and circumstances, have not yet been released by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation.

Court records show that David Samuel McPherson, 33, of 941 Page’s Road, Clarkton, has been charged in connection with the deputy’s death. McPherson is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, reckless driving, and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

McPherson was booked into the Columbus County Detention Center at 2:06 p.m. Thursday and is being held on a $100,000 secured bond.
