Officers assisted stranded residents, responded to emergencies, and supported a veteran’s final escort
Chadbourn, NC – The Chadbourn Police Department reported a steady stream of calls over the weekend as a winter storm brought hazardous conditions across Columbus County. Officers said one of the most encouraging parts of the response was watching residents step up to help neighbors while first responders worked through their call load.
To maintain transparency, the department released a breakdown of the calls handled during the storm.
Weekend Call Activity
– 3 residents transported home after becoming stranded in snow
– 1 individual taken to the Whiteville Warming Center
– 1 domestic assault call
– 2 business alarm responses
– 11 business checks
– 2 EMS assist calls
– 3 traffic stops for unsafe speeds during winter conditions
In addition to storm‑related responses, officers assisted with the final transport of U.S. Army Veteran Claude Meadows from his home to Worthington Funeral Home. The department expressed its gratitude for his service.
