Cerro Gordo NC – Summer evenings often bring people outdoors, but the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to remain vigilant regarding unusual neighborhood activity. On Tuesday, July 28, at 6:52 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a home on Cedar Grove Church Road in Cerro Gordo.

The homeowner, 57-year-old Marie Strickland, reported an unidentified 65-year-old male trespassing and prowling around her property. While no immediate arrest was recorded in connection to this specific dispatch, deputies scoured the area. Law enforcement advises homeowners in rural stretches of the county to ensure exterior lighting is functional and to report any suspicious persons immediately rather than confronting them directly.
