Brush Fire Blocks Enoch Road Near Highway 501; Drivers Urged to Avoid Area

submitted Horry County SC fire rescue

Horry County, SC — All lanes of Enoch Road near Highway 501 are currently blocked as Horry County Fire Rescue crews work a brush fire reported at 5:42 p.m. February 23, 2026.

The fire, estimated at less than one acre, is under control, and crews remain on scene to fully extinguish remaining hotspots.

Dry vegetation, low humidity, and even light winds can make roadside brush especially vulnerable to fire, allowing a small spark from vehicles, discarded cigarettes, or outdoor burning to ignite quickly. These conditions help explain why small brush fires – like the one on Enoch Road – can still produce noticeable smoke and require extended work from fire crews to fully extinguish lingering hotspots.

Drivers can help by avoiding active scenes, slowing down in smoky areas, and giving responders the space they need to operate safely.

People in the area may continue to see smoke for an extended period. Officials urge drivers to avoid Enoch Road to prevent delays and ensure the safety of those working on scene.
