Free reassurance program checks on older adults and residents with disabilities each morning.
The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office offers the free “Are You OK?” telephone reassurance service for older adults and adults with disabilities who live alone or may be at risk of illness, falls, or social isolation.
The system places an automated call each day between 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. If the call is answered, the resident is logged as safe. If there is no answer, the Sheriff’s Office is alerted, and deputies or a designated key holder attempt to make contact. If they cannot reach the resident, a deputy is sent to the home for a welfare check.
Residents who will be away during call times — such as for appointments or travel — are asked to notify the program through its dedicated phone line.
The service operates seven days a week, year‑round, and is meant to supplement, not replace, other emergency alert systems like Lifeline or Lifephone or any other service that one might currently be utilizing. In fact, BCSO urges the use those services in addition to “Are You Okay?”.
Program details and the enrollment form are available through the Sheriff’s Office at: ARE YOU OK
