Out of an abundance of caution for the families and boats involved, we are monitoring a forecasted southwest wind and have decided to postpone the tournament to ensure a safe, fishable experience for everyone. The Lil’ Whack a Mack is now rescheduled for May 1–3, and we appreciate your understanding in prioritizing the safety of our participants.

SUNSET HARBOR, NC — The Brunswick County Fishing Club is gearing up for its annual Little Whack‑A‑Mack Spanish Mackerel Tournament, set to run April 17–19, 2026, with weigh‑ins and festivities centered at the club’s Sunset Harbor location.

Anglers from across the region are invited to compete for cash prizes based on the total aggregate weight of five Spanish mackerel (minimum 12” fork length). Entry is $100 per boat, with no limit on the number of anglers per vessel as long as safety regulations are followed.

Weigh‑ins will be held:

  • Friday and Saturday: 5:00–5:30 PM
  • Sunday: By 3:00 PM All weigh‑ins take place at The Brunswick County Fishing Club, beside the wildlife ramp in Sunset Harbor.

🎣 Special Categories and Optional TWT Prizes

In addition to the main competition, anglers can enter optional “Winner Takes All” (TWT) categories:

  • Junior Angler (14 & under): Free entry
  • Female Angler: $25 entry
  • Senior Angler (65+): $25 entry
  • Heaviest Spanish Mackerel: $50 entry
  • Heaviest King Mackerel (24” FL): $100 entry
  • Heaviest Atlantic Bonito: $50 entry
  • High Roller: $75 entry

All TWT categories award first place only.

💰 Prize Structure

Payouts for the main tournament are based on total entries. With 100 boats, the prize pot reaches $6,000:

  • 1st Place: $3,300
  • 2nd Place: $1,800
  • 3rd Place: $900

Winners of over $600 must complete tax documentation before receiving prize money.

📍 Fishing Rules and Eligibility

  • Open to anglers 18+; minors may participate with a signed waiver.
  • All fish must be caught on hook and line using live or artificial bait.
  • Boats must launch and return from Brunswick County waters.
  • Participants must hold a valid North Carolina fishing license.
  • Captain’s Meeting: Thursday, May 1, 2025, 5–7 PM at the club (also livestreamed). Attendance is mandatory unless excused by the tournament director.

🎉 Post‑Tournament Party

A celebration and awards ceremony will follow Sunday’s final weigh‑in, starting at 5:30 PM, with beverages, sponsor recognition, and prize presentations.
