The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners will convene for its next regular meeting on Monday, February 16, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sandifer Administration Building in Bolivia. Several notable presentations and administrative items are scheduled for discussion, including updates on mental health initiatives, intergovernmental collaboration, and departmental restructuring.

During the presentations portion of the meeting, the Board is expected to receive the annual update from the Substance Use, Addiction, and Mental Health Commission. The briefing will outline ongoing efforts, recent progress, and upcoming priorities related to behavioral health services across the county.

Under the administrative report, commissioners will consider a request from the City of Boiling Spring Lakes to appoint one or more Board members to serve as liaisons to the city’s newly established Wastewater Committee. The committee is intended to support coordination and communication as the city continues its long-term wastewater planning.

The Board will also review a proposal to rename the Code Administration Department as the Building Safety Department. County staff are recommending the change to better reflect the department’s mission and responsibilities.

A previously anticipated agenda item regarding a proposed fire services agreement will not be presented at the Feb. 16 meeting. Staff reported that they are continuing to incorporate feedback from key stakeholders, including the Brunswick County Fire Chiefs Association and municipalities with fire departments. The updated agreement is now expected to come before the Board during its March 16 regular meeting.

The public is welcome to attend the Feb. 16 meeting in person or watch via the county’s Agendas & Minutes Portal.
