The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met Monday, February. 16 at 6:00 p.m., covering a focused slate of presentations and administrative updates. The meeting opened with a Health Services presentation from the BOCC Substance Use, Addiction, and Mental Health Commission, offering its annual update. Commissioners received the report without taking a vote, and the full presentation is available through the county’s Agendas and Minutes Portal.

During the Administrative Report, the Board unanimously appointed Chairman Mike Forte and Vice Chairman Marty Cooke as liaisons to the City of Boiling Spring Lakes’ newly formed Wastewater Committee. The city requested county participation as it begins work on wastewater planning and oversight.

Commissioners also considered a proposal to rename the Code Administration Department to the Building Safety Department. After brief discussion, the Board unanimously voted to table the item, citing the need for additional research into the use of “Building Safety” as a department name and other related considerations.

Staff concluded the meeting with updates on the proposed Fire Services Agreement and ongoing NC DEQ sewer issues. No action was taken on either topic.

The next meeting of the Brunswick County Board of Commissioners is scheduled for Monday, March 2 at 3:00 p.m.
