Nexus Joins Specialized Tracking Team to Support Search Efforts for Vulnerable Missing Persons
The addition of Nexus to the combined Bloodhound Team marks a significant expansion of regional search and rescue capabilities for the coastal Carolinas. By joining veteran bloodhounds Honey and Pepper, Nexus strengthens a specialized unit dedicated to serving both Brunswick and New Hanover counties through a strategic inter-agency partnership.
This collaborative team provides a vital safety net for the region’s most vulnerable populations.
The hounds are specifically trained to track individuals with cognitive impairments, including those with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and autism, who may be prone to wandering. Given the complex terrain of the coastal region, the bloodhounds’ unique ability to discern and follow specific human scents over long distances offers a level of precision that remains unmatched by modern technology.
The acquisition of Nexus was made possible through a donation from MGK II Construction, LLC and the Kennedy family, with the canine sourced from Scent Evidence K9.
This contribution highlights the impact of community support in enhancing public safety. With three highly trained bloodhounds now on call, local law enforcement is better equipped to respond to time-sensitive missing persons cases where rapid deployment is essential for a successful recovery.
