Crews mitigate fuel leak following vessel accident on the Intracoastal Waterway.
BUCKSPORT, SC — Horry County Fire Rescue (HCFR) crews were dispatched to the Intracoastal Waterway in the vicinity of Bucksport shortly after noon today following reports of a vessel striking the shoreline.
At approximately 12:05 p.m. on June 13, 2026, emergency responders arrived to find a boat that had come to rest alongside the waterway.
The incident resulted in a minor fuel spill, prompting the deployment of HCFR’s Boat 1 and a specialized Hazmat Team, which established a staging area at the nearby Bucksport Marina.
As of this afternoon, the situation is under control. Fire crews remain on-site, working to mitigate environmental hazards and contain the leak. No injuries have been reported.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) has assumed jurisdiction over the investigation. Residents and boaters are advised to avoid the immediate area to prevent navigation delays and ensure the safety of emergency personnel.
