Belinda Joyce Dixon, 70, of Southport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and her lifelong friend Terry, Friday, July 31, 2026, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick. She is now resting in the arms of Jesus after a long, courageous journey with cancer.
Belinda, daughter of Hurley and Virginia Perry Dixon, was born May 20, 1956, in Burlington, NC. After graduating from Alamance Christian School and attending Elon College, Belinda, an accomplished athlete of several sports, traveled extensively with ASA and USSSA Softball for many years as an outstanding pitcher and batter. She also worked for Davis and Davis Fiat, Burlington Dodge, and other local car dealerships for several years. Belinda retired from Dialight Inc. in Roxboro, NC after 20 years of service and worked another 16 years in various part-time jobs in Brunswick County after her relocation to Southport.
Belinda never met a stranger and had a great gift for making everyone feel like they had known her for years. Even the stream of nurses who flooded her hospital room with hugs, well wishes, prayers, laughter, and tears before she was transported to the Hospice House served as a clear testimony to the impact Belinda had on the lives of others. Her humor and antics won the hearts of many. She was a kind, loving person who loved the Lord, her family, her friends, and her church. Belinda spent most of her years as part of a church family and served faithfully at Mt. Tirzah UMC in Timberlake, NC, as well as at Sharon Methodist Church in Supply, NC. She shared her strong alto voice as part of their choirs, with special groups, and as a soloist. It was always a special treat to have “Bo” – as she was affectionately nicknamed along the way – to play her autoharp and sing. Music was balm to her spirit. Most folks who knew Belinda hold a special memory of her, as she loved to hold court with her stories and make people laugh! She also loved the beach, shelling, fishing, a delicious meal, shopping for a good sale, Lil’Reata (the precious dog she shared with Terry for 13 years), eating Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (or Britts!), chocolate covered cherries, and her coffee.
Belinda was undeniably a devoted daughter, friend, sister, aunt, and great aunt. Preceding her in death was her younger brother, Keith Dixon, and her grandparents, Joe Hurley and Mabel Dixon, and Bill and Vera Perry. In addition to her parents and her best friend, Terry McAlister, of the home, she is survived by her brothers, Kenneth Dixon and wife Karen and John Dixon and wife Teressa; two nephews; one niece; nine great nieces and nephews; and many more babies and friends she adored.
A Celebration of Life for Belinda will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Sharon Methodist Church, 2030 Holden Beach Road, Supply, officiated by Rev. Paul Dunham and Rev. Eddie Hill. Prior to the memorial service, the family will receive friends at the church at 10:00 AM.
