BC News Community Hero: Honesty on Oak Island

Dexter from OKI shares how one stranger’s integrity made all the difference

I’m Dexter, and I live here on Oak Island. I came home the other day to find my mailbox smashed – obviously hit by a vehicle. I sat in my truck thinking, well, I guess I’m headed out to buy a new post, when a man walked up to me.

He introduced himself and then told me he hit my mailbox that morning. He had passed up the house he was trying to get to, started backing up, and clipped it. Then he told me he was already on his way to buy a replacement.

This gentleman didn’t have to stop. He could have driven off, and I never would’ve known what happened. But he chose honesty.

His name is Mike Morris, of M & M Homes – Mike and Robin Morris. He’s never done any work for me before, but after this, he’s earned my business if I ever need anything. He told me he loves to paint, too.

It’s a small moment, but it says everything about the kind of people we have in this community. We invite our readers to join us in thanking Mike for reminding us of all of the power of local compassion and honesty.
