U.S. Marshals capture Myrtle Beach suspect in Detroit; investigation continues

MYRTLE BEACH, SC —  The Myrtle Beach Police Department says Vinson De‑Niro Jones, 38, of Myrtle Beach, has been taken into custody by the United States Marshals Service Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team and the Detroit Police Department. Jones is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with a death investigation that began July 21, 2026.

Officers were first called to a residence in the 2000 block of Greens Boulevard for a welfare check, where they located a deceased individual. Detectives continued gathering evidence, and the case was soon classified as a criminal homicide.

Investigations Captain Jeremiah Beam said strong partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies were essential in bringing the case forward, noting the collaboration and commitment shown throughout the investigation.

MBPD is a participating agency with the United States Marshals Service Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service, Horry County Police Department, and Horry County Sheriff’s Office. The department also thanked the Detroit Fugitive Apprehension Team and the Detroit Police Department for their assistance in locating and apprehending Jones.

All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
