BRUNSWICK COUNTY — March 15, 2026 — Brunswick County is bracing for a round of severe weather Monday, with forecasters warning of damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes across coastal areas of southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina.
The National Weather Service in Wilmington issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook Sunday afternoon, highlighting the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms from Monday morning through early evening. Wind gusts outside of storms could exceed 45 mph, and a Wind Advisory may be issued. Dense sea fog may also move onshore periodically, and freezing temperatures are possible Tuesday night.
In response, Brunswick County Schools announced that Monday, March 16, will be a student holiday, with staff reporting on an optional workday. District officials emphasized that safety remains the top priority and that staff should check their email for further guidance.
“Spotter activation will likely be needed,” the Weather Service noted, signaling the seriousness of the forecast.
Local emergency management officials continue to monitor conditions closely. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and prepare for rapidly changing conditions.
