Sheriff’s Office reports continued progress in countywide roadside cleanup
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC — During the month of February 2026, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Statewide Misdemeanant Confinement Program (SMCP) Litter Crew continued working hard to help keep Columbus County clean and beautiful.
Deputies reported 537 total hours worked performing roadside cleanup, resulting in 33.5 miles of roadway cleaned across the county. Six SMCP inmates were assigned to cleanup operations throughout the month, focusing on areas with persistent litter and high visibility.
The program supports county beautification while reinforcing accountability and productive work for participating inmates.
Sheriff Bill Rogers said the continued effort reflects the dedication of both staff and crew members.
“The SMCP Litter Program continues to make a real difference in Columbus County. These crews put in long hours in all types of weather to help keep our roadsides clean, and their work does not go unnoticed. This program is an important part of giving back to the community while also teaching responsibility and work ethic.”
