Whiteville Police Department’s “We Call We Care” Program Continues to Support Residents Living Alone
City of Whiteville, N.C. — The Whiteville Police Department continues to operate its long-standing “We Call We Care” program, a daily check‑in service designed for older adults, disabled residents, and individuals who live alone. The program has become a dependable part of the city’s community‑focused safety efforts, offering reassurance and connection to those who may be most at risk of isolation.
Each morning between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m., enrolled residents receive a phone call from the department. If a call goes unanswered, officers follow up with a welfare check to ensure the individual is safe. The routine is simple, but it provides a vital safety net—especially for residents who may not have nearby family or who face health or mobility challenges.
The program has helped strengthen relationships between officers and the community, reinforcing the idea that public safety includes proactive care and daily support. Families who live out of town often appreciate the peace of mind the service provides, knowing their loved one has a consistent point of contact.
Enrollment is open to qualifying residents within city limits. Community members are encouraged to share information about the program with neighbors, caregivers, churches, and local service providers so more residents can benefit. A QR code is included with this article to make enrollment even easier.
