MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The annual Salute From the Shore will bring a patriotic military flyover to the Grand Strand this Independence Day, offering residents and visitors a chance to honor America’s service members as aircraft travel the length of the South Carolina coastline.
The tribute begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, when F‑16s from the South Carolina Air National Guard’s 169th Fighter Wing launch from McEntire Joint National Guard Base. The formation will start its coastal run over Cherry Grove in North Myrtle Beach before continuing south.
Following the F‑16s, a C‑17 Globemaster III from the 437th Airlift Wing at Joint Base Charleston will join the flyover. A formation of Apache helicopters from the South Carolina Army National Guard’s Alpha Company, 1‑151st Attack Battalion, also based at McEntire, will continue the salute down the shoreline.
Spectators in Myrtle Beach can expect the aircraft to pass overhead at approximately 1:03 p.m., weather permitting. The flyover will continue toward Murrells Inlet, Pawleys Island, Charleston Harbor, Hilton Head, and the Beaufort/Bluffton area in the Lowcountry.
After the military aircraft, an all‑volunteer brigade of Warbirds—a civilian‑owned vintage aircraft community—will complete the salute. This year’s Warbird lineup includes T‑34s, T‑6s, and T‑28s, offering a nostalgic nod to aviation history as they follow the active‑duty and National Guard aircraft down the coast.
Beachgoers are encouraged to dress in red, white, and blue, wave to the pilots, and enjoy the Independence Day tradition from piers, waterfronts, and open beach areas. For updates and the full flight schedule, visit SaluteFromTheShore.org.
