CPSC and Daikin Comfort Technologies pull more than 13,000 Amana AC and heat‑pump units for fire hazard
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), working with Daikin Comfort Technologies, has announced a nationwide recall of 13,514 Amana‑brand air conditioning units and heat pumps after identifying a defect that can leave the heating element energized during a ground fault, even when the unit is switched off. Officials say the malfunction creates a fire and burn hazard.
The recall covers both window‑room air conditioners and through‑the‑wall units sold between April and December 2025.
Affected models include several beginning with PB, AH, and AE, such as PBH113J35AA, AH183J35AA, and AE123J35AA. A white sticker on the front edge of the unit’s base pan displays the model and serial number.
One incident involving melting damage has been reported. Consumers are advised to stop using the unit immediately, cut the power cord, and submit photos of the serial number and cut cord to Daikin Comfort Technologies to receive a full refund.
