NORTH WHITEVILLE — One person died in a Sunday afternoon collision, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Patricia Best McKenzie, 80, of Bladenboro, was a passenger in a Buick Enclave that attempted a left turn and entered the path of an oncoming vehicle. The crash happened just after 6:00 p.m. in the North Whiteville area.
According to Highway Patrol, the Enclave turned into the lane of a southbound Dodge Charger. McKenzie died from her injuries.
The Charger’s driver and other occupants were taken to Columbus Regional with non‑life‑threatening injuries, Highway Patrol reported.
Responding agencies included North Whiteville Fire Department, Chadbourn Rescue, Whiteville Rescue, and the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office.
