Ocean Isle Beach to Implement Temporary Traffic Diversions on Saturday, June 13

OIB Police Department outlines day‑long measures to prevent roundabout gridlock and maintain emergency access.

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, NC — With a high‑traffic Saturday expected, the Ocean Isle Beach Police Department will put several temporary traffic controls in place on June 13 to keep vehicles moving safely on and off the island.

Beginning as early as 9:00 a.m., all northbound traffic on Causeway Drive will be diverted right at the mainland roundabout. Depending on congestion, the diversion may remain active until 7:00 p.m. Officers say the goal is to prevent gridlock inside the roundabout and ensure an open lane for emergency response.

Drivers diverted onto Highway 179 will be able to turn left onto Hale Swamp Road to continue toward their intended destination. The department has provided a map to help motorists plan alternate routes.

Traffic leaving the West End of the island will also see changes. Outbound vehicles will be directed to use West First Street only, with temporary restrictions on portions of West Third Street, West Second Street, and Clinton Street.

Officers will be positioned throughout the island and mainland to manage traffic flow. The department is asking drivers to remain patient, follow instructions, and treat officers courteously as they work to keep the community safe.
