Tabor City – A man wanted on multiple felony charges was captured Thursday after deputies say he tried — and failed — to drive away from Columbus County detectives.

Investigators with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division located Brian Keith Misenheimer in Tabor City on July 9 while attempting to serve an outstanding felony warrant. As detectives approached, Misenheimer allegedly jumped into a vehicle and tried to flee. He drove over a curb, causing the vehicle to stop near a detective, and continued trying to accelerate — but the vehicle became stuck and couldn’t move any farther.
Detectives took Misenheimer into custody without further incident. His passenger, Jerome Boyd Hemingway, was also detained after a records check showed he had multiple outstanding warrants.
A search of the vehicle uncovered suspected cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and several packages of steak that deputies say were stolen from the Food Lion in Tabor City. The store had not yet discovered or reported the theft at the time the items were recovered.
Misenheimer faces a long list of charges, including:
- Breaking and Entering (3 counts)
- Larceny After Breaking and Entering (3 counts)
- Felony Larceny
- Felony Possession of Cocaine
- Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official with a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Misdemeanor Larceny
- Second-Degree Trespass
He received a $175,000 secured bond.
Hemingway was served with one count of Failure to Appear on a Felony and three counts of Failure to Appear on a Misdemeanor. His bond was set at $25,000 secured.
The Sheriff’s Office said the arrests not only cleared multiple outstanding warrants but also led to the recovery of narcotics and stolen merchandise tied to a crime that had not yet been reported.
All individuals listed are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
Charges and case statuses may change as investigations and court proceedings continue.
