Critics question the movement as organizers cite concerns over executive power and democratic norms

Wilmington will host the region’s only confirmed “No Kings III” rally on Saturday, March 28, part of a nationwide day of action that includes events in major cities across North Carolina and South Carolina.

While other communities across both states are preparing for demonstrations of their own, Wilmington stands as the sole confirmed location within New Hanover County.

Organizers say Democrats are protesting what they view as executive overreach, federal immigration actions, and broader threats to democratic norms. While the rallies are largely driven by left‑leaning groups, organizers say the events are open to anyone who shares their concerns.

The local event drew pointed reactions from some. One, who declined to provide a full name, dismissed the movement as “nothing but liberal nonsense.” Another commentimg on past rallies, identifying himself only as Uncle Sam, argued that the protesters have a right to gather but thinks they really have no idea and seem “delusional.”

The Wilmington rally is expected to follow the same general format as other “No Kings” gatherings nationwide, emphasizing coordinated messaging and nonviolent action.

For now, it remains the only confirmed rally in New Hanover County as the broader movement prepares for its March 28 mobilization.
