WHITEVILLE, N.C. — The City of Whiteville has officially ended its State of Emergency following this week’s winter storm, Mayor Terry L. Mann announced Wednesday.
The declaration, lifted at 9 a.m. on Feb. 4, ends the emergency measures that were enacted to protect residents and property during the storm. The city’s governing ordinance allows the mayor to declare and terminate a State of Emergency when conditions warrant.
Although the emergency status has been lifted, city officials said recovery efforts remain underway.
“Necessary and vital response activities continue throughout our city,” the proclamation states, noting that crews are still working to restore services and return the community to normal operations.
The proclamation was signed by Mann and attested by Interim City Manager Colburn Brown.
Whiteville, like much of southeastern North Carolina, experienced significant winter weather impacts earlier in the week, prompting local and state emergency declarations.
