Music, markets, and community spirit fill Madison Street as local talent and small businesses take center stage

Whiteville’s downtown district will come alive on Thursday, April 30, as two community centered events bring residents together for an evening of live music, local vendors, and small‑business support.
The Whiteville Downtown Development Commission is hosting its next Music in the Alley performance, featuring regional musician Skyler Whittfield. A very nice secure outdoor setting, bring your chairs and a friend, the venue is located next to Collier’s Jewelers on S. Madison Street.
The free show runs from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and is sponsored by Nieman Market Meats & Provisions. Organizers say the series is designed to create a relaxed, family‑friendly space where residents can gather, enjoy local talent, and spend time in the heart of downtown.
Just a short jog away, the front lawn of the Vineland Depot at 701 S. Madison Street will transform into the Downtown Open‑Air Market from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The market highlights small growers and makers from across the area, offering fresh flowers, local produce, sourdough bread, homemade pasta, and microgreens. The event encourages shoppers to explore local goods while supporting independent vendors who help shape the region’s agricultural and creative economy.
With both events scheduled on the same evening, downtown visitors can browse the market before heading to the alley for live music, creating a full night out for families, neighbors, and visitors. City organizers hope the combined activities will continue to strengthen Whiteville’s growing downtown culture and provide a welcoming space for community connection.
