The Whiteville City Council will meet Tuesday, February 10, at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, where members will recognize retiring City Manager Darren L. Currie and hold a public hearing on a major rezoning request.
Council is expected to adopt a formal resolution honoring Currie, who retired December 31 after 11 years of service to the City of Whiteville. The resolution highlights his work with council and staff, his leadership since becoming city manager in 2014, and his reputation for professionalism and approachability. A signed copy will be added to the city’s permanent records and presented to Currie during the meeting.
Council will also hold a public hearing on a request from AMC II, LLC to rezone 130.97 acres at 233 Quail Drive—Parcel #77308—from RA‑20 to a mix of R‑6 Residential and B‑3 Highway Serving Business. The site sits at Quail Drive and James B. White Highway N., and the Planning Board recommended approval on January 12.
The meeting is open to the public.
