Residents urged to prepare and follow boil‑water advisory
WHITEVILLE, NC — Columbus County Public Utilities has announced a planned water service interruption for Water District IV on Thursday, June 11, 2026, as part of work connected to a North Carolina Department of Transportation project.
According to a notice issued by Public Utilities Director Harold Nobles, water service will be shut off at 8:00 a.m. and is expected to be restored by 5:00 p.m. The county advises residents to store any water they may need before the outage begins.
District IV covers the northwestern portion of Columbus County, including the Cerro Gordo and Evergreen areas and rural communities west and northwest of Chadbourn.
Nobles said the interruption “cannot be avoided” due to required work on the water main line tied to the transportation project.
Once service is restored, customers are instructed to boil water for 24 hours before drinking or cooking with it.
The county stated it regrets any inconvenience and appreciates residents’ cooperation during the maintenance period.
