Myrtle Beach, SC — A new tribute honoring the courage, sacrifice, and service of Vietnam War veterans will be unveiled this Memorial Day in Myrtle Beach. The City of Myrtle Beach will host the grand opening of the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 25, at Warbird Park, located at 150 Farrow Parkway. The ceremony also serves as the city’s annual Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony.

Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston, United States Marine Corps, Retired – Medal of Honor recipient and Vietnam War veteran, will serve as the featured speaker. Additional veteran speakers and ceremonial elements will highlight the service and sacrifice of those who served during the Vietnam War.

Organizers say the event will include a flag‑raising, Battlefield Cross Ceremony, Missing Man Table, music by Festive Brass, a performance by the Carolina Youth Chorale, a rifle salute, and the playing of “Taps.” The Robert Hawkins Award will also be presented during the program.

The city is preparing seating for 1,000 attendees, with reserved seating for Vietnam War veterans. Handicap parking, accessible seating, and golf cart shuttle service will be available. The ceremony will take place rain or shine.

The day’s observances begin earlier with the annual Jack Platt Veterans’ March. The march steps off at 9:30 a.m. from Valor Memorial Garden at 1120 Farrow Parkway and proceeds along the sidewalk of Farrow Parkway to Warbird Park. Participants are encouraged to bring photos of their veteran to carry during the walk. The march concludes at the new Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in time for the 11 a.m. ceremony.

Both events are free and open to the public, and community members are encouraged to attend.
