Whiteville, NC – Two men were arrested Friday night after a fight at a Smith Street residence left both with injuries, according to Whiteville Police.
Officers were called to 110 Smith Street just after 10 p.m. for a reported disturbance. When they arrived, they found Bobby Ray Inman, 57, of Bladenboro, with multiple lacerations to his face, and John Wayne Cooper, 44, of Lumberton, with minor injuries.
According to Police Chief Paul Rockenbach, the investigation determined that Cooper assaulted Inman with a knife, stabbing and cutting him in the face, arms, and abdomen. Cooper was still inside the residence when officers arrived.
Both men were treated and released by EMS before being taken into custody.
Cooper was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and placed under a $10,000 secured bond. Inman was charged with simple assault and held without bond, which is standard procedure in certain domestic‑related or victim‑safety‑related cases.
Police also noted that both Cooper and Inman have unrelated drug charges pending in Columbus County District Court.
All individuals are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
