Multiple weather warnings now in effect as officials urge residents to prepare
Leland, NC –The Town of Leland is urging residents to prepare for dangerous winter weather conditions expected to impact the area this weekend, with multiple alerts now upgraded as the storm approaches.
Town officials announced that the Leland Cultural Arts Center will be closed on January 31 and February 2 as a precaution.
Road Treatment Notice
–The Town does not maintain snowplows or brining equipment for road treatment. While NCDOT has pretreated some major roads, residents are strongly encouraged to avoid travel during the storm whenever possible–
Shelter Availability
As of Friday evening, the Town of Leland has not announced any public warming shelters or emergency shelters for this weekend’s winter storm. Town officials have not activated any local sheltering options at this time.
Weather Alerts Intensify
The area is under a Winter Storm Warning, Gale Warning, and Extreme Cold Warning. Snow is now expected to begin Saturday morning, with high confidence in dangerous cold, rare wind chills, significant snowfall, and hazardous coastal winds and seas.
