The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a Special Weather Statement warning of elevated fire danger today due to a combination of extremely dry fuels and gusty southwest winds.
According to the statement, dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could ignite easily and spread fire quickly under today’s breezy conditions.
Residents are urged to refer to local burn‑permitting authorities for current rules and restrictions. If burning is allowed, officials advise using extreme caution.
