Southport man claims $100,000 top prize on $30 scratch-off
A Southport man is celebrating a major lottery win after taking a chance on a $30 scratch-off ticket. William Everett claimed a $100,000 top prize from the $100,000 Cash Payday game, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.
Everett purchased the winning ticket at Rosie’s Gas & Grill on Long Beach Road in Southport. He visited lottery headquarters on Wednesday to collect his prize and received $72,018 after required state and federal tax withholdings.
The $100,000 Cash Payday game launched in March with 80 top prizes available statewide. Lottery officials report that 61 of those $100,000 prizes remain unclaimed, leaving multiple opportunities for future winners.
Lottery proceeds continue to support education across the region. Brunswick County received $6.3 million in lottery funding last year, helping pay for school construction, transportation, and classroom resources.
