WHITEVILLE — Southeastern Community College is making online learning more accessible than ever through its FLEX Online program, a centralized hub for students who want to complete their education remotely.
FLEX Online offers a wide range of fully online associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in programs such as Arts, Science, Teacher Preparation, Business Administration, Medical Office Administration, Information Technology, and Early Childhood Education. Short‑term online workforce training is also available through Ed2Go and FundFive.
SCC Student Advisor and Counselor Julia Roberts said FLEX Online gives students control over their schedules, allowing them to complete assignments and tests when it works best for them. She said online learning is ideal for students who are organized, self‑motivated, and comfortable managing deadlines independently.
Medical Office Administration Instructor Kaitlin Nobles and Early Childhood Education Instructor Amanda Heath said the online format has been especially beneficial for working parents balancing jobs, childcare, and other responsibilities. Both instructors stay in close contact with students through phone, email, and office hours. Heath also uses the Remind app to send push‑notification updates directly to students’ phones.
“With most of our students being adult learners with limited free time, the online format makes getting a degree that much easier,” Nobles said.
Information Technology Instructor Billy Tatum said FLEX Online reflects the technology‑driven workplaces students will enter.
“With SCC offering FLEX programs, we’re embracing the technology trends that our students will experience in the workplace today,” Tatum said. “With 100% online access, students can learn from anywhere, making it easier to balance work, family and personal responsibilities.”
Tatum said SCC’s online IT programs prepare students for in‑demand careers in networking, security, and technical support. Free tutoring and affordable tuition help make the programs accessible.
“Overall, online IT learning offers convenience, opportunity and a clear path to a rewarding career—all without putting your life on hold,” he said.
Students finding success online
Several SCC graduates say FLEX Online helped them reach their goals.
McArthur Moore, a 2025 Associate of Arts graduate, completed his degree entirely online before transferring to UNC Charlotte to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business administration—also fully online. Moore said SCC instructors were responsive and supportive, which helped him stay on track while running a business he started in high school.
“I love being in control of my own schedule,” Moore said. “Online studies allowed me to do my work late at night when it fit my life.”
TJ Bianchini, a 2024 graduate, completed two of her three associate degrees fully online in business administration and business–banking and finance. She said online learning made college more manageable while balancing work and home responsibilities.
“My instructors were very responsive and approachable,” Bianchini said. “Online learning offers great flexibility and allows you to work at your own pace while balancing other responsibilities.”
